Things to do near Hawkwell House
1. The River. As the Wind in the Willows says, “there is absolutely nothing half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats”, and there is absolutely nowhere half so much worth doing it as the rivers at Oxford.
2. The TV Detective. Here’s a clue – his name rhymes with horse and begins with ‘M’. Trace the footsteps of Britain’s favourite TV detective on one of the entertaining Walking Tours every Saturday at 1.30pm.
3. Designer heaven. As someone once said: “Whoever said that money cannot buy happiness simply didn’t know where to go shopping.” If discounted designer labels are your bag, then Bicester Village will put a smile on your face.
4. The play’s the thing. The Oxford Playhouse has a well-earned reputation as one of Britain's leading theatres.
5. The knowledge. If you have a thirst for knowledge, then Oxford is your oasis, with the greatest concentration of museums, galleries and libraries in the land, including the famous Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology founded in 1683 and, of course, the University with all of its magnificent buildings.
6. The Palace. One of Britain’s finest stately homes and a World Heritage Site – Blenheim Palace was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. The house is open from March to October, and the Capability Brown parklands throughout the year.
7. The nightlife. Where there are students, there’s nightlife – so it goes without saying that Oxford is brim full of bars, clubs, pubs, restaurants and theatres to satisfy the party animal in you.
8. Natural beauty. The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has something for everyone, including beautiful English villages, a wealth of National Trust stately homes and gardens, and for children, the Cotswolds Wildlife Park and Gardens.
